Ritual and Candidate Training

HOME

Although we largely know the ritual wording, many of us know very little about the origins of the rituals we use every day.  Forget the legends, here is the straight story, as told in an article by Harry Carr.

600 Years of Ritual

It is now recommended by the Custodians of the Work the the following prologues, originally developed for the One Day Classed, be used prior to the degrees even when performed individually.  Here they are for your reference.

Third Degree Prologue

As the degrees progress, the enlightenment course MUST be used.  Here are the courses.  The review questions will be added later.  Remember, those questions are not a quiz or a test.  They are discussion and review topics.  It is also recommended that the obligation and the modes of recognition be reviewed with the candidate to ensure he can pass an examination to gain admission into another lodge.

Carl Claudy wrote several books that are highly recommended for the new Mason.  In many lodges, these booklets are given to the brother as he completes each degree.  Here they are:

Claudy's Introduction to Fremasonry

    The Entered Apprentice

    The Fellowcraft

    The Master Mason

And oh, yes, to get this all started, you will need a petition.  Here is the new Pocket Petition.
